She/He/They a Training on SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression) - Offered by Child Safe Michigan (an affiliate of Judson Center Child & Family Services)

SOGIE, an abbreviation combining sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, has become one of the main reference terms to describe the LGBT (or lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community. It is now being introduced in many legal doctrines including foster care. Its usefulness lies in its inclusiveness: The term "LGBT" is specific to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, but SOGIE refers to characteristics common to all human beings because everyone has a sexual orientation and a gender identity. Everyone also expresses their gender, not just lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Come and learn how SOGIE applies to you as well as your foster children! We will explore SOGIEs, allyship, and techniques in supporting your foster child's SOGIE.

This workshop is presented by Hannah Kline, she is the Child Safe Intake and Licensing worker with a BA in Sociology.
