Foster Care Awareness Month
May is Foster Care Awareness Month, a month set aside to acknowledge foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who support children and youth in foster care. As primary caretakers, foster parents and kinship caregivers play significant roles in working with parents and in carrying out the tasks in a child’s permanency plan. Foster Care Navigators are committed to offering information and materials that support caregivers’ well-being and strengthen their efforts to work with families, keep children connected to the services they need, and promote a sense of normalcy for youth while in foster care.
In an effort to recognize licensed foster parents and kinship caregivers, the Foster Care Navigator program launched our third annual “We are Foster Parents” campaign! This campaign is designed to recognize licensed foster parents and relative caregivers for the commitment they make to the children and youth in foster care ~ ensuring they are safe, loved, and reach their full potential!
